Jon Cooper (born February 1, 1955)[1] is the legislator for Suffolk County's 18th district, serving since 2000. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He was seen as a potential challenger to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, but he later declined.

He was first elected to the Suffolk County Legislature in November 1999, representing the 18th Legislative District which encompasses the northern portions of the Town of Huntington.[1]

Jon and his spouse Robert have lived in Huntington since 1983. They have five adopted children.[1]

2010 New York Senate Election

Cooper was seriously considering a primary challenge to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand,[2] but he eventually opted out of running and endorsed Gillibrand instead.[3]
